So I am a sucker for free samples and Feast Seasoning Co. was offering free samples of their seasoning products on Instagram so I hit them up!
They sent me four packets of seasoning with three different flavors!!
They currently make five different flavors of seasoning:
- Rock’n Garlic
- Lemon Pepper
- The Works
- The Works Spicy
- Chipotle Honey
Feast prides themselves on using no additives or GMO’s, no preservatives or MSG and is also low in sodium. I’ve noticed that many people who use this seasoning use it for their meal prep to keep their meals low calorie and low sodium but still have flavor.
I’d been contemplating trying to meal prep for a while, but I always made an excuse because… I’m lazy but since I got these samples I decided to try meal prepping out for real.
Yesterday I ended up using Rock’n Garlic and The Works on some salmon and chicken for my very first meal prep. I’m not a big spicy person so I think I’ll share the spicy version of The Works with one of my friends.
Rock’n Garlic
The only ingredients I used for this was four salmon fillets, the Rock’n Garlic Feast seasoning and some coconut oil cooking spray. I wanted to see how well the seasoning would actually work so I eliminated other ingredients from potentially helping/hurting the flavors.
I started by rinsing off my salmon (the internet told me to) and patting it dry and then I added some of the Rock’n Garlic seasoning.
I then heated up my pan with some of the coconut oil spray and once it was heated up I put my fish in skin side down (the internet told me to) and let it cook for about 6 minutes.
While it was cooking I sprinkled some more of the Rock’n Garlic seasoning on the skin side. After flipping it skin side down I let it cook for another few minutes until the flesh of the salmon was thoroughly cooked. One thing I thought was cool was when I flipped it the middle part of the salmon fillet kind of split open as the skin shrank down from the heat. It was like magic! <– I’m such a noob at cooking
After I took it off the heat I was left with some perfectly (although maybe a little dark on top) cooked salmon and things were smelling really good and garlicky. I ended up assembling my meal prep containers the next morning because I started a little late on the cooking the night before. I put about a half cup of brown rice and a half cup of broccoli in the bottom of each container and a salmon fillet on top. I also added a little bit more of the Rock’n Garlic because I don’t think I put enough on when I was cooking it. I think I was subconsciously trying to preserve the Feast seasoning goodness.
Having eaten my salmon this week I think I could have used to put some more seasoning on each piece of fish but the garlic flavor of the seasoning did shine through and it was very tasty. I liked that I didn’t have to add any extra salt or anything and that I have some healthy meals all prepped for the week. This saves me time in the morning from having to prepare lunch and I’m also less likely to go out and buy lunch or dinner since I already have food prepared.
The Works
For The Works seasoning I decided to use it on some chicken breast. I bought two chicken breasts at the store and since they were so huge I cut them each in half so I had four pieces. I used a similar technique just sprinkling on some of the seasoning but for these I applied my seasoning a little more liberally and I made sure to coat every side.
I sprayed down the pan with some coconut oil spray and I also sprayed a little bit on top of the chicken. I ended up baking these in the oven but I wasn’t too sure what temperature or for how long. I cooked it at 350° F for about 20 minutes and then flipped the chicken over and baked for another 20 minutes or until all the pink was gone. I tried using a meat thermometer but I think it was too old and ghetto to give me an accurate reading. I ended up cutting into one of the large pieces and it was fully cooked so I pulled the pan out of the oven.
I put the chicken in similar containers with rice and broccoli and I have to say out of the two flavors I tried this week The Works is my favorite. It isn’t spicy but it packs a lot of savory flavor to the chicken. I’m not sure exactly what flavor The Works is but whatever they got going on, it’s working!
I definitely will be purchasing some of these seasonings in the full bottle size once I’m out of my samples. I only used about half of a packet for each of my meats that I cooked. If you’re interested in trying their seasonings you can also request a free sample on their website by clicking here.
