Last night the 16.1 Crossfit Open workout was released and holy crap! I am scared!!!!
This is my first Open and obviously I was expecting it to be difficult, but I can definitely not do Rx which is dissapointing. The Rx version of 16.1 is as follows:
Complete as many rounds and reps as possible in 20 minutes of:
25-ft. overhead walking lunge
8 burpees
25-ft. overhead walking lunge
8 chest-to-bar pull-ups
Men lunge 95 lb.
Women lunge 65 lb.
If my knee wasn’t busted I could do the overhead lunges at 65 lbs and I can also do burpees although I am terrible at them, but I have yet to do a pull-up.
Luckily there is a scaled version, HALLELUJAH!
Complete as many rounds and reps as possible in 20 minutes of:
25-ft. front rack walking lunge
8 burpees
25-ft. front rack walking lunge
8 jumping chin-over-bar pull-ups
Men lunge 45 lb.
Women lunge 35 lb.
To me, 35 lb is going to be light and I would much rather do 35 lb overhead than front rack lunges. I sometimes feel like I am falling forward with front rack lunges and I think that’s mostly a personal mobility issue. Lunges in general is one of my weak points. I have no problem getting down, but coming back up I have a serious struggle. I need to get that checked out or something. I also have no idea what the heck a jumping chin-over-bar pull up is. I tried looking it up on YouTube and this is what I found:
I’m 5′ 10″ so I’m not sure how that will play into the jumping pull up. I also have strong legs but no arm strength so I’m anticipating having to just jump my way over the bar. My box (yes, I used the word box for the first time and I’m giggling while typing it) is hosting a “Friday Night Lights” thing tonight and I’m mostly nervous about sweating in front of so many people while they watch me flop around doing burpees. This is going to be a really long AMRAP (As Many Reps As Possible) but I’m sticking to my goal:
Beat at least 2 grandmas on the leaderboard
I hope those of you who are also participating in the Open do better than I do 🙂
